SEN Learning Support Assistant – full‑time, Eastleigh (secondary school SEN base)
Are you passionate about making a difference for young people with additional needs? Do you have experience, or transferable skills from care or support work and want to work in a supportive, inclusive school environment?
GSL Education is excited to recruit on behalf of a well‑regarded secondary school in Eastleigh with a strong, student‑centred SEN base. We’re seeking a dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant to join their team, working with students with EHCPs for a range of needs including autism, learning difficulties, SEMH and more.
-----------------------------------
About the role
* Full-time, permanent contract, start ASAP.
* Based in the school’s SEN base/resource provision, supporting pupils with EHCPs. The provision supports pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) (e.g. dyslexia) and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and also works with pupils with other SEND (communication & interaction, cognition & learning, sensory/physical needs).
* Support may include: 1:1 and small‑group work, in‑class support, help accessing the curriculum, running interventions, supporting emotional and social development, assisting with annual EHCP reviews, and supporting during exams or transitions.
-----------------------------------
We’re looking for someone who
* Has experience working with children/young people, ideally in SEN, care, support work, or similar, but transferable experience will also be considered.
* Is patient, compassionate, and understands the need for high expectations and consistency. The ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and families is essential.
* Communicates clearly, supports learning and behaviour, and can adapt to individual needs and differentiated support.
* Is willing to contribute to bespoke support packages, liaise with class teachers, the SEN team and pastoral staff, and support the school’s inclusive ethos.
-----------------------------------
Why this school?
* The school has a strong reputation for SEN support, with two resourced provisions (SpLD and SEMH) and a commitment to offering “the right support, for the right child, at the right time.”
* The inclusive, caring culture of the school is emphasised by staff and Ofsted: there is a welcoming, “family” atmosphere, and staff wellbeing is taken seriously.
* Working as a Learning Support Assistant offers real opportunity to impact lives, helping pupils with complex needs to access the curriculum, flourish socially and emotionally, and achieve academic success.
