Staff Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner

In support of the Cardiac Theatre manager, the post holder contributes and actively participates in the smooth running of the two cardiac theatres and one hybrid theatre. The post holder must be a confident and competent practitioner providing effective safe research‑based patient care under supervision.
This role is based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.
Job Responsibilities
* Assist and support the theatre manager in the effective management of the department in accordance with the Trust’s personnel policies and procedures.
* Coordinate daily departmental activities and maximise department resource potential with supervision from senior staff.
* Plan own workload and that of other junior staff effectively.
* Assist in monitoring budgetary expenditure in relation to the care centre and theatre department, identifying and applying cost‑efficient practices.
* Document peri‑operative details in the integrated pathway to facilitate collaboration among multidisciplinary team members.
* Safely transfer patients post‑surgery to the ward or high‑dependency unit.
* Establish and maintain effective communication within the multidisciplinary team.
* Act as a patient advocate, respecting patient privacy and dignity.
* Communicate and interact with other departments within the cardiac unit.
Experience / Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (RGN), Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Experience in an NHS or UK healthcare setting.
* Good team worker with leadership qualities.
* Administrative and IT skills; familiar with current professional issues.
* Awareness of policies and procedures to follow when required.
