We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Children with Disabilities Social Worker to join our team in Northallerton, North Yorkshire. In this role, you will work with children and young people with disabilities and their families, providing support, assessment, and intervention to promote their well-being and enable them to reach their full potential.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of children with disabilities and their families to identify their needs and strengths.
2. Develop and implement care plans in collaboration with children, families, and other professionals, ensuring the provision of appropriate support and services.
3. Offer practical assistance, guidance, and emotional support to families, empowering them to effectively manage their child's disability.
4. Liaise with external agencies, such as schools, healthcare providers, and specialist services, to coordinate multi-disciplinary support for children and their families.
5. Advocate for the rights and entitlements of children with disabilities, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are addressed.
6. Participate in safeguarding procedures, conducting risk assessments and taking appropriate action to protect children from harm.
7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, adhering to data protection and confidentiality policies.
8. Stay informed about relevant legislation, policies, and best practice guidelines, applying this knowledge to inform your practice.
Requirements:
9. Degree in Social Work or a related field, and registration with Social Work England.
10. Significant experience working as a Social Worker within children's services, preferably with a focus on disabilities.
11. Strong understanding of child development and the impact of disabilities on children and families.
12. Excellent assessment and analytical skills, with the ability to identify risks and develop effective intervention plans.
13. Empathy, sensitivity, and the ability to build rapport and trust with children, families, and colleagues.
14. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage with a diverse range of individuals and professionals.
15. Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989, the Care Act 2014, and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
16. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing a varied caseload and meeting deadlines.
17. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
