Controls Engineer

Altera Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Engineers to join a respected engineering services provider working across critical water infrastructure projects in London and the South East. This field-based role will see the successful Controls Engineer carrying out installation, commissioning, maintenance, and optimisation of a range of industrial control and automation systems.

Key Responsibilities of a Controls Engineer:

*

Install, configure, and commission a wide range of control and instrumentation equipment including VSDs, flowmeters, level sensors, and turbidity analysers.

*

Carry out on-site modifications to control panels and starter units, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.

*

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve electrical and instrumentation faults to minimise downtime and maintain operational efficiency.

*

Complete system testing, calibration, and documentation in line with project and compliance requirements.

*

Promote safe working practices by preparing risk assessments, conducting toolbox talks, and adhering to industry safety standards and company procedures.

Skills & Qualifications Required:

*

Recognised trade qualification such as City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering (or equivalent).

*

A minimum of three years’ hands-on experience maintaining and repairing industrial control systems, ideally within the water or utilities sectors.

*

Proficient in working with 4-20mA loops, variable speed drives (VSDs), and industrial instrumentation.

*

Competent in interpreting electrical schematics and P&ID diagrams for fault-finding and installations.

*

Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across multiple sites within the region.
