Job Summary:
We are looking for a compassionate, dedicated, and skilled Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to join our team. As a Band 5 RMN, you will be providing high-quality nursing care to individuals experiencing mental health conditions, promoting recovery, and delivering person-centred support. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a supportive environment, where your role will make a real difference to the lives of service users.
Key Responsibilities:
* Patient Care:
o Deliver professional, compassionate, and effective care to individuals experiencing mental health conditions, ensuring a holistic approach to their physical, psychological, and emotional well-being
o Develop and implement individualised care plans in collaboration with service users and their families, supporting recovery and helping patients to achieve their personal goals
o Monitor and assess the mental and physical health of patients, identifying any changes in their condition and taking appropriate action
o Provide therapeutic interventions, including administering medication, offering counselling, and supporting patients through their recovery process
o Safeguard vulnerable individuals and support their rights to autonomy, dignity, and independence
* Collaboration and Communication:
o Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and support staff to ensure a coordinated and effective care plan for each service user
o Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date patient records in accordance with regulatory standards and trust policies
o Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and carers, providing information and support to enable informed decision-making about care and treatment
* Risk Management:
o Carry out risk assessments and contribute to care planning for service users at risk of self-harm, harm to others, or other mental health crises
o Support the management of challenging behaviour using appropriate de-escalation techniques and interventions, ensuring the safety of service users, staff, and visitors
* Professional Development:
o Keep up to date with the latest research and best practices in mental health nursing
o Engage in continuous professional development, attending training and supervision sessions as required
o Support and mentor junior staff and students, offering guidance and sharing knowledge to foster learning and development
* Regulatory and Legal Compliance:
o Adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct and all relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Act, safeguarding protocols, and health and safety regulations
o Ensure compliance with trust policies and procedures, maintaining high standards of care and safety at all times
* Supporting Recovery:
o Support the development of individual recovery plans, working collaboratively with service users to set achievable goals and promote long-term recovery
o Encourage and facilitate patients' involvement in meaningful activities, building confidence and skills to support independence
Requirements
Qualifications:
* Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with valid NMC registration
* Evidence of a current and valid DBS check
Experience:
* Previous experience in a mental health nursing role (desirable but not essential for newly qualified nurses)
* Experience in acute or community mental health settings is an advantage
* An understanding of mental health conditions and treatments, as well as relevant legislation (e.g., the Mental Health Act)
Skills:
* Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with patients and their families
* Compassionate and patient-centred approach to care
* Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
* Ability to manage and prioritise workloads effectively in a fast-paced environment
* Resilience, with the ability to manage challenging situations in a calm and professional manner
Personal Attributes:
* A genuine passion for mental health nursing and supporting individuals with mental health needs
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or crisis situations
