The role:
The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support families and individuals, in improving nutrition and oral health of individuals targeted by Dental Public Health Programmes. The post holder will work under the direction and supervision of the team leader to provide individual interventions, which have been identified through a structured care plan.
These interventions are designed to support families and individuals with identified risks, to maintain and develop relationship with their children and carers, whilst developing their own oral health support skills.
The post holder will work across a range of settings including the family home, community and primary care dental service settings and will facilitate access to oral health promotion, dental preventive and treatment services through all Dental Public Health Programme
This post is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
This is a permanent, part-time post of 14.4 hours per week.
Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.
Based in Maryhill.
The shift pattern is 8.30-16.30
Key responsibilities:
1. To make contact with parents and carers of all new births, as allocated to the caseload within the Child and Family Health Team, to discuss oral health and determine their needs.
2. To provide practical support and advice at home and in other settings to identified families, parents and children and carry out such tasks as identified by Team Leader/Public Health Nurse.
3. To work with families identified within the Children and Family Health Team as requiring additional support. Intensive home support will be provided, with a focus on the first year of life, in line with Childsmile protocols and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde policies e.g. Infant Feeding Strategy.
4. To Provided oral health and infant nutrition advice in the family home and through community activities.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
5. SVQ 3 in Health Care, or working towards, or equivalent experience working with a caring environment/ role
6. The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary/ agency team
7. Effective written and verbal communication
8. Good organisational skills and an ability to carry out assigned client care and tasks effectively within a busy environment
9. Ability to work without direct supervision
10. Full driving licence
Basic Training and Continuous Professional Development
11. It is a requirement that the post holder successfully completes the NHS Education for Scotland (NES) accredited Childsmile/Priority Group training programmes during an agreed period of induction
12. The post holder will be expected to undertake continuous professional development, including regular Childsmile training updates.
