Job Overview

We are looking for a reliable and capable Pet Care Assistant to join our small, professional pet care business.

The role involves a mixture of solo dog walking, cat pop-in visits and occasional pet sitting in clients' homes. You will often be working independently and trusted with clients' pets, homes and keys, so reliability and professionalism are essential.

We take the safety and welfare of the animals in our care very seriously and are looking for someone who shares those standards.

Hours are currently low (around 4–5 hours per week) but can vary depending on demand. There will also be opportunities to cover additional hours during busy periods, holidays or staff absence, sometimes increasing to full-time hours temporarily. Flexibility is therefore important.

Reliability is essential, as our clients depend on us to care for their pets when they cannot be there.

Requirements

* Must be 25 or over (vehicle insurance requirement)

* Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle

* Previous experience working with animals, particularly dogs

* Confident handling dogs of different breeds, sizes and temperaments

* Able to work independently, manage your time and use good judgement

* Reliable, organised and professional with clients

The role includes

* Solo dog walks

* Cat and small pet home visits

* Occasional pet sitting

* Travelling between client homes

* Providing updates to owners after visits

* Walking dogs outdoors in all weather conditions

This role would suit someone who loves animals, is dependable, and is looking for a small amount of regular work with the potential for additional hours when required.

Responsibilities

* Assist with feeding, grooming, and exercising animals in accordance with their individual needs
* Monitor animals for signs of illness or distress and report concerns to management promptly
* Maintain clean and hygienic kennels, cages, and common areas
* Support veterinary procedures by restraining animals safely and efficiently
* Provide compassionate customer service to pet owners, answering questions and offering advice when appropriate
* Handle heavy lifting of supplies, equipment, or animals as required
* Ensure all safety protocols are followed to protect both staff and animals during daily operations
* Keep detailed records of animal health, treatments, and behavioural observations

Requirements

* Prior veterinary experience or animal care background is highly desirable
* Genuine passion for animal welfare and a caring attitude towards pets of all types
* Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with pet owners and team members
* Physical strength and stamina to perform heavy lifting tasks regularly
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
* Organised with attention to detail to maintain accurate records and ensure high standards of care
* Flexibility to work various shifts as needed, including weekends or holidays if required

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent, Zero hours contract

Pay: From £15.00 per hour
