Instrumental Music Teacher: Woodwind, SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL

The hourly salary for this role is £29.86 inclusive of 15% holiday pay, equating to an annual salary of £9,853 per annum for working 10 hours per week, 33 weeks per year (330 hours per year) with the potential to build on these hours. Surrey Arts is Surrey's leading provider of youth music lessons, ensembles and instrument hire.

This is a permanent, salaried peripatetic woodwind teacher role working both during school hours and after school hours on weekdays and Saturday mornings based in north, west and south of Surrey. The candidate would ideally offer multiple woodwind instruments (e.g. flute, clarinet, sax) or an additional instrument such as piano, though for the right candidate one instrument may be considered. Hours are flexible with a minimum of 10 hours per week for 33 weeks, with potential to rise to 15 hours per week or more.


Responsibilities

* Deliver high quality and innovative music education to students at various schools and venues around Surrey across 33 weeks of the academic year.
* Teach one-to-one and small group tuition; potential to deliver whole class teaching or act as ensemble conductor/assistant conductor (higher pay and salary adjustments apply).
* Travel around the county to meet the demands of the role, including school days, after-school sessions, and weekend activities.

About the Role

Surrey Arts is an ambitious and forward-thinking organisation placing young people at the centre of its work and aiming to be inclusive for the diverse community of Surrey. The advertised salary is based on delivering one-to-one and small group tuition; applicants may also deliver whole class teaching or conduct ensembles, with higher pay and adjustments based on Surrey Arts Teacher Pay Scales. The hours advertised may fluctuate with demand; after four months, the annual salary will be adjusted to reflect actual hours worked.

You will need to be willing and able to travel across Surrey for teaching sessions, which take place during the school day, after school and at weekends at various schools and music centres.


Shortlisting Criteria

* Recognised music diploma/degree or equivalent professional experience
* Passionate about the importance of music and helping all students express themselves musically
* Ability to teach a range of students with adaptable teaching styles and genres
* Knowledge of and willingness to learn music exam specifications and exam preparation (as appropriate)
* ICT literate: able to use email and web-based platforms
* Understanding of safeguarding and commitment to student welfare
* Commitment to continuing professional development and strong interpersonal skills
* Flexible approach to scheduling and ability to travel around the county
