Assistant Sub-Agent
Contract: Essex Highways
Location: Chelmsford, CM2 5PU
Contract Type: Permanent
Reporting to the Sub-Agent, Agent, or Senior Agent, you will support the delivery of projects from inception to completion as part of the construction team’s annual programme of works.
This includes involvement in the following work streams: Inlay Surfacing, Surface Treatments, Vehicle Restraint Systems (VRS), Local Highways Panel (LHP) Schemes, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Section 106 (S106) Schemes, Surface Water Alleviation Schemes (SWAS), and Footway Schemes.
The Role
1. Ensure all projects comply with health, safety, and environmental legislation, RJ processes and policies, CDM requirements, and quality management standards.
2. Assist with the delivery of multiple schemes, utilising internal staff, shareholder resources, external consultants, and contractors as required.
3. Undertake direct site supervision, including issuing permits to work and conducting site inductions when necessary.
4. Administer and review risk assessments, method statements, progress reports, stage reviews, and scheme process documents, ensuring they are completed in line with the principles and timescales defined in the contract.
5. Support the management of schemes from initial design through to completion, and, where appropriate, act as NEC Project Manager and/or NEC Supervisor on suitably sized schemes.
About You
6. 4 GCSEs or equivalent at grade C / 4 or above (including Maths and English) – essential
7. BTEC Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment, or equivalent – desirable
8. Completion of an apprenticeship in the construction industry, preferably in Highways – desirable
9. CSCS, NRSWA, and SMSTS card holder – desirable
10. Membership of a relevant professional body – desirable
