About the role:
At Holland & Barrett, we're empowering customers to live happier, healthier lives by becoming the leading partner in global wellness. Technology is at the heart of this journey — helping us scale, personalise, and modernise how we deliver health and wellness to millions across our digital and retail platforms.
The Team
You'll be joining our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) function, part of a growing Platform Engineering capability. The team ensures our systems are resilient, observable, and able to scale with business needs. We work closely with product engineers, infrastructure, and security teams to reduce toil, improve system health, and create great developer experiences.
The Role
As a Site Reliability Engineer, you'll focus on improving the reliability and performance of our systems, building tools to automate operations, and supporting teams to adopt SRE best practices. You'll be hands-on with cloud infrastructure, monitoring, incident response, and deployment tooling — all while learning from more senior engineers and contributing to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Reliability & Performance: Help ensure our services are available, fast, and scalable by contributing to well-defined SLOs, alerts, and reliability practices.
* Monitoring & Observability: Build and maintain dashboards and alerting systems using platforms like Datadog. Identify gaps and contribute to improving visibility across systems.
* Cloud Infrastructure: Work with AWS to provision and maintain reliable cloud environments. Support infrastructure-as-code practices using Terraform and similar tools.
* Automation & Tooling: Develop scripts and automation to reduce manual toil and improve deployment, testing, and operations processes.
* Incident Management: Participate in on-call rotation, triage and investigate incidents, contribute to blameless post-mortems, and help improve system resilience.
* Collaboration: Partner with product teams, developers, and DevOps engineers to support reliability goals and advocate for engineering best practices.
* Learning & Growth: Stay curious and proactive — this role offers strong mentorship, exposure to complex systems, and the chance to shape how SRE is adopted across H&B.
Key requirements:
* Hands-on experience with AWS, especially core services like EC2, Lambda, S3, IAM, RDS and DynamoDB.
* Some experience working with monitoring/observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or similar.
* Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
* Understanding of infrastructure-as-code principles, ideally with Terraform.
* Some scripting or programming ability (e.g. Python, Go, or Bash) — enough to automate repetitive tasks or improve tooling.
* Good grasp of CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes, preferably GitLab CI.
* A collaborative mindset with good communication skills — you're happy working with cross-functional teams.
* A calm and methodical approach to incidents and troubleshooting.
Nice to have
* Experience with incident response and familiarity with tools like PagerDuty or OpsGenie.
* Understanding of CDNs and web delivery protocols.
* Exposure to canary deployments, feature flags, or other release engineering strategies.
* Interest in developer experience, platform tooling, and reducing cognitive load for engineers.
