Trainee Teaching Assistant – Newport
Start date: September 2025 (with trial days available before the summer holidays)

This role is ideal for individuals keen to gain hands-on experience in alternative provision settings, working closely with children who face challenges related to social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH), ADHD, and anxiety.
Your Role
1. Supporting pupils in both group and one-to-one settings, with a strong focus on emotional regulation and positive behaviour
2. Creating a warm and inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued, safe, and encouraged to thrive
3. Gaining practical experience supporting learners with additional needs including SEMH, ADHD, and anxiety-related difficulties
4. Assisting in the implementation of strategies that promote personal growth and academic progress
5. Building positive, consistent relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families
6. Encouraging emotional literacy, communication, and social development
What We’re Looking For
7. A genuine passion for helping children with additional learning or behavioural needs
8. Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trust with young people
9. A positive and proactive approach, with a commitment to supporting pupils’ individual journeys
10. Strong communication skills and a caring, professional attitude
11. A clear interest in pursuing a long-term career in SEND or alternative education
12. Availability Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 3.30 pm
13. Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register – we’ll support you through the process
