PR and External Communications Officer
Location: Bristol with hybrid working.
Salary: £27,000 to £29,000 per annum.
Employment Type: Fixed term, 6 months. Full Time 35 hours per week.
About the Organisation
The Soil Association, formed in 1946, is the only UK charity that works across the spectrum of human health, the environment, and animal welfare. That’s because we cannot tackle these issues in isolation. We campaign for change, support farming innovation, serve healthy food in communities, grow the organic market, and protect forests. We couldn’t do any of this without our supporters, partners, donors and dedicated staff. We make a difference in the world where it’s needed the most.
About the Opportunity
Our PR and External Communications team is responsible for the voice of the Soil Association across external channels, coordinating how we respond to the activities and conversations happening in the world around us, and how we drive thought leadership, engage in discussion and inspire change proactively across our own channels and those of other media outlets.
This is an opportunity to join us on a 6‑month contract and jump into a busy team, getting involved in a range of external communications activities: drafting press releases and media enquiry responses, shaping content for our websites, and crafting engaging and informative posts for our social channels.
You will be involved in active policy campaigns, supporting communications to national as well as trade and sector press including food and farming media, capturing video and written content for public audiences, and supporting at events. This role has a broad remit, offering plenty of variety and hands‑on experience, working within a great team as part of the wider communications network across the group.
About You
Do you enjoy working in a busy environment at a fast pace, collaborating with colleagues to identify the important news items of the day, responding to media enquiries while drafting press releases and supporting content for website and social channels? Are you skilled at turning complex content into compelling stories, and translating technical expertise into accessible information for a variety of audiences?
This role is a busy and exciting blend of activity across a range of media, and would suit you if you have a good basic grounding in communications and are looking to sharpen your skills and deepen your experience.
