Job Overview

A 12‑month fixed‑term opportunity has arisen for a clinically experienced midwife to join our Women’s and Children’s Research Team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in research delivery who wants to develop specialist skills in reproductive health studies.

You will work within a supportive, friendly, and experienced team on a range of studies across our reproductive health portfolio, including the Generation Study. You’ll play a key role in delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred research that contributes to improving care for women, birthing people, and families.

Experience in the delivery of clinical research an advantage but not essential as full training will be given.

This Band 6 post is offered as maternity cover for 12 months from May 2026.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will play a key role in delivering high‑quality research within the Women’s and Children’s Research portfolio, with a primary focus on the Generation Study. The role involves assessing, planning, and implementing research care, and providing support to participants throughout their involvement in clinical studies.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide clear, accurate information and training to Women’s & Children’s (W&C) staff.
* Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary research team, wider clinical colleagues, and lay representatives contributing to W&C studies, particularly the Generation Study.
* Promote study participation by sharing clear, accessible information with potential participants in both hospital settings and through community outreach activities.
* Undertake participant recruitment and informed consent processes and support the organisation and administration of studies in line with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
* Maintain accurate, timely documentation of clinical events in partnership with the research team.
* Enter study data accurately into approved databases and ensure data integrity throughout the research process.
* Support the safe and compliant storage of research data within the department.
* Ensure adherence to clinical study protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across the research portfolio.
* Participate in the analysis and interpretation of research data and support the preparation of research reports and publications.


Education, Training and Qualifications


Essential criteria

* Registered Nurse, Midwife, Allied Health Care Professional (AHP) or registered Clinical Research Practitioner (CRP) with current live registration
* Significant relevant post registration experience
* Degree level education in nursing or health related subject or equivalent relevant experience
* Further study in a health / biological science‑related area (e.g. relevant modules or CPD) or equivalent relevant experience


Desirable criteria

* Current Good Clinical Practice certification


Work Experience


Essential criteria

* Comprehensive experience in relevant clinical or research environment.
* Experience of clinical research in accordance with ICPHGCP inc. UK statutory instruments and UK clinical trials regulation.
* Experience of extended roles e.g. venepuncture, ECG’s, link‑roles
* Effective personal time and caseload management
* A high level of organisational skills to support workload
* Experience supporting senior staff or coordinating day‑to‑day activities within a team, demonstrating good organisational and professional skills
* Able to work independently and manage day‑to‑day work activities of self and junior members of the team


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Essential criteria

* Proficient in the use of IT systems with previous experience of using databases and have meticulous data entry skills
* Advanced communication skills, verbal & written, to include report writing and record keeping
* Excellent interpersonal skills with patients and multidisciplinary team.
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Facilitation of development of other staff
* Understanding of the application of research within the clinical environment
* Ability to lead projects and work with the wider MDT and external stakeholders to coordinate the delivery of projects
* Demonstrate advanced decision‑making skills and problem‑solving abilities in the context of complex facts and relevant information
* Ability to be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the service, working across teams if necessary
* Numerical literacy to oversee cost review process in projects, utilising established systems provided

* Awareness of the Trust’s Organisational Objectives

* Flexibility of working days (7‑day service) and times (with prior knowledge) to fit service needs; & punctuality
* Ability to be mobile to meet the requirements of the role
* Excellent attention to detail & accuracy
