This hospital-based senior cleaning services operational management role (8A) within the Barts Soft FM Directorate . Barts Trust which is the largest and most ambitious NHS Trust within the UK.
This is a tactical senior operational Management, requiring experience in the delivery of healthcare cleaning and hygiene service) at one of the four hospitals at Barts Health NH Trust
The successful candidate will help shape and develop the future success of our Soft FM cleaning services within Barts Trust which is the largest and most ambitious NHS Trust within the UK.
The role encompasses the need for tactical leadership to oversee the high quality operational and financial management of all cleaning and hygiene services across the Barts Health NHS. Along with the delivery of innovative cleaning service change management projects.
Employing state-of-the-art cleaning equipment and methodologies affiliated to the latest leading edge digital and AI business support applications to deliver and maintain the highest levels of service, quality assurance and corporate governance. by collaborative working with clinical, Infection Prevention (IPC), leads, Estates leads and our in-house, Soft FM Compliance, Quality Assurance Audit Team (CQAAT)to provide excellent overall standards of cleanliness and safety to patients.
Main duties of the job
To manage the operational, fiscal, and quality assurance performance for all the in-house and ancillary contracted specialist supply chain partner cleaning service deliverables across the Hospital site and auxiliary buildings to include but not limited to:
- Washroom Services
- Window Cleaning
- Pest Control
- Supply and Management of Disposable Bay and Shower Curtains
- Cleaning Equipment, Supply and Maintenance and use in situ.
- Mop and Micro-fibre Cloth laundering and renewal.
- Cleaning Services Waste Management and supply of waste stream waste bags
- Supply of all cleaning consumables, chemicals, and ancillary cleaning products
- Specialist Deep Cleaning Activities to include HPV Decontamination Fogging and

Qualifications
- Educated to degree or equivalent industry standard qualification in Facilities Management
- Proven Soft FM Service experience at senior operational management level
- Full Membership of British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) preferably to Assessor Level
- IOSH or similar
Experience
- Significant demonstrable experience of management of cleaning services preferably in a large and complex healthcare environment
- Experience of working with Healthcare Specialist IPC leads and their teams.
- Understanding of Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) and the role of healthcare cleaning to assist in prevention and control of the same infection
- Use of Computer Aided Facilities Management technology (CAFM) and other agile Information Technology Platforms (ICT) for asset and resource management: the set up and operation of planned and reactive task recording and issue: production of associated data analytics and production of by exception dashboard reports
- Demonstrable experience of budget setting, forecasting, and knowledge of realigning fiscal results to required trading performance numbers
- Management of teams in excess of 250 WTE
- Understanding of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) structures and how healthcare cleaning supports healthcare Infection Prevention and Control
- Understanding and experience of developing and implementing Cost Improvement Programmes (CIPs)
- Knowledge In-depth Knowledge and understanding of the NHS National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025, to include the requirements and methodology of both Environmental and Efficacy Auditing Working Knowledge of Care

- Specialist Knowledge of the cleaning industry to include state of the art equipment, lean operational practices, cleaning chemical efficacy and most applicable consumables and disposables for use in healthcare environments
- Knowledge and certifiable proof of health and safety certified training to support the delivery of a culture of ZERO HARM working environments
- Proficient in using and developing cleaning management system platforms and specialist cleaning industry integrated cleaning systems
- Must be an excellent communicator in both written and verbal disciplines.
- Working Knowledge of Care Quality (CQC) outcome standards regulation 15- Premises and Equipment criteria for audit and governance of healthcare facilities
- Must know how to work with operational teams to reduce reportable accidents and incidents in the workplace (RIDDORs) and Lost Time Incidents (LTIs)
- Experience of deployment of asset and task driven integrated cleaning systems that incorporate data analytic reporting
