Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role or provide business continuity support during an incident, and you will receive training and alternative working arrangements to support you.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join the Water Resources Regulation team. This is an exciting opportunity to use your knowledge and skills to ensure we properly manage water resources and help shape the future direction of water resources regulation.
You will work closely with teams in Environment & Business, Permitting and Operations to gain a good understanding of emerging licensing policy issues, and provide specialist water resources licensing advice to other parts of the organisation and to external customers and partners.

Responsibilities
* Support development of new policies and processes.
* Resolve and answer technical water resources regulation helpdesk queries.
* Review and maintain existing process guidance and tools to ensure they are fit for purpose.
* Review training needs, prepare and deliver training courses.
* Provide licensing advice for the proposed move to the Environmental Permitting Regulations and for any changes in regulation resulting from the proposed new water regulator.
* Be an active member of the WR Senior Permitting Officer group, Permitting Advisory group, and Permitting Governance group; providing licensing advice and support to improve our processes.
* Review and provide advice on our own water resources licence applications and on complex licence determinations.
* Respond to incidents and support business continuity during incidents.
Qualifications
* Knowledge and experience of abstraction and impounding, water resources regulation and legislation (essential).
* Experience of improving a process or system, drawing support from across teams.
* Ability to solve complex processes and technical queries.
* Ability to balance competing priorities, targeting effort where it is needed most.
* Ability to work independently, be self‑motivated and pro‑active, and complete work on time to a high standard.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.

The role is based in the EA Office but, as a national role, the working location is flexible.
