These are exciting times for Medicine for Older People in Bucks. We are working towards strengthening our presence at the front door as well as our foothold in the community, particularly with regards to Frailty.
We are looking for a dynamic person with strong leadership and innovation skills to work in a team to develop Frailty services in Buckinghamshire.
We aim to have a small but robust acute footprint whilst maintaining and strengthening our larger community footprint. For us the front door is the patient’s front door and not the AED.
The department is keen to accommodate special interests; we are happy to discuss and consider appropriate changes in the weekly job plan.
This is a forward looking post and will evolve. We are expecting the post-holder to take an active part in the development of the role and to help drive geriatric services forward into the next decade.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will take part in the department’s regular teaching to medical students, junior doctors and other health professionals. He/she will supervise junior staff, as well as other members of the department’s clinical team, and community clinicians.
The post-holder will be required to comply with Trust and GMC standards for appraisal and revalidation, including continuing professional development.
You will work in the community units as well as the acute site (Stoke Mandeville Hospital). .
You will be expected to provide prospective cover for annual and study leave.

As well as fulfilling their clinical responsibilities, the post holder will be expected to play a part in the department’s audit and teaching activities, providing beside and formal teaching to medical students, junior doctors and other health professionals, and supervision of junior staff, as well as other members of the department’s clinical team, and community clinicians.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Full MRCP UK or Eligibility for the Specialist register in general internal medicine
2. Eligible to work in the UK
3. Up to date and fit to practise safely
Desirable criteria
4. Higher degrees including MSc, PhD or MD
Experience
Essential criteria
5. MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
6. Evidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialties
7. Evidence of involvement in a quality improvement or formal research project
8. Evidence of teaching experience and/or training in teaching
Desirable criteria
9. Have evidence of achievement of Internal Medicine Stage 1
10. Experience core level of managing elderly patients
11. Experience of managing patients with severe acute medical disease
12. Evidence of relevant academic publications
Personal Skills

13. Good communication skills including written

15. Evidence of involvement in management commensurate with experience
