Job Title: Premises Manager
Salary: Scale 9 – £36,585 to £39,276 per annum
Hours: 36 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Start date: 17 November 2025
Complete classroom services are seeking to appoint a Premises Manager who will play a crucial role in the smooth running of a school. You will ensure school buildings and grounds provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. The successful candidate will lead and manage the site team, oversee all aspects of site maintenance, and take a key role in ensuring full compliance with health and safety regulations.
We are looking for someone with:
* Experience managing school or similar premises
* A strong understanding of health and safety regulations
* Excellent organisational and team leadership skills
* A proactive, practical approach to problem-solving
* A flexible attitude with regard to working hours, with occasional evening or weekend work as required
Key Responsibilities
· Oversee the security, safety, maintenance and cleanliness of the entire school site and premises
· Line manages the site team and ensures that all duties are allocated, monitored and completed to a high standard
· Carry out regular site inspections, identifying and prioritising repairs and maintenance needs
· Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, including carrying out and recording risk assessments
· Liaise with contractors and coordinate planned and reactive maintenance work
· Manage school lettings, ensuring security and access arrangements are in place
· Oversee statutory testing and servicing (e.g. fire alarms, water hygiene, electrical safety)
· Manage and monitor premises-related budgets and order supplies and equipment as required
· Support the school with emergency procedures, including acting as Fire Warden and coordinating evacuations
· Ensure that site records, permits and documentation are kept up to date and accessible
· Lead on sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency measures across the school site
· Work flexibly to respond to out-of-hours emergencies as needed
Qualifications and training
· Evidence of facilities or premises management training, or equivalent experience.
· Good standard of general education (GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths)
· Health and Safety training, including COSHH and manual handling (desirable)
· First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake training)
Experience
· Experience of managing a site, premises or facilities in a school or similar environment.
· Experience of supervising a team and managing contractors
· Experience of planning and carrying out maintenance and repairs
Skills and knowledge
· Good understanding of health and safety requirements in schools
· Ability to identify, prioritise and resolve premises-related issues efficiently
· Excellent organisational, planning and time-management skills
· Good IT skills, including the use of email and basic spreadsheets
· Ability to communicate effectively with staff, pupils, visitors and contractors
