Our client, a prominent Scottish law firm, is seeking an experienced Private Client Associate to join their thriving Private Client team in Edinburgh. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled solicitor to make a significant impact within a well-established and respected firm.
Position Overview
As an Associate in the Private Client team, you will play a crucial role in delivering expert legal advice to a diverse range of clients. You will handle a broad spectrum of private client matters, with a particular focus on wills, executry administration, tax planning, and trust creation and management. This position offers the opportunity to work independently while also collaborating with team members on complex transactions.
Responsibilities
Draft and advise on wills, ensuring they accurately reflect clients' wishes and estate planning goals
Manage executry administration, including advising on complex tax-paying estates
Provide tax planning guidance, with an emphasis on Inheritance Tax (IHT) and reliefs such as Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR)
Create and manage trusts, advising on technical trust law and asset protection
Assist private clients with complex issues, including contentious executries and trust matters
Prepare and advise on Powers of Attorney and Guardianships
Contribute to the financial success of the team by meeting agreed targets
Engage in business development and marketing strategies to support the firm's growth
Requirements
Qualified Scottish Solicitor with at least 5 years' PQE in private client law
Solid knowledge of wills, executries, tax planning, and trusts
Excellent drafting and advisory skills
Ability to work independently and manage own caseload
Collaborative mindset and willingness to work with team members on complex matters
Commitment to contributing to the team's development and success
Experience in business development and marketing is advantageous
