Job Purpose
* Walsall’s School Attendance Support Service is seeking a dedicated Attendance Officer to join its Prevention and Reintegration team, working collaboratively with schools, families, and professionals to support vulnerable children at risk of poor attendance. This role is vital in ensuring every child receives their full educational entitlement and the opportunity to thrive, making a meaningful impact on their lives and future outcomes.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
* Work closely with schools across Walsall to challenge and support them in meeting their statutory responsibilities, particularly in relation to attendance, elective home education, permanent exclusions, and children missing from education.
* Champion the educational needs of vulnerable children, ensuring they access quality education and support to reach their full potential.
* Collaborate directly with children, families, and schools across a range of settings to develop tailored support and intervention strategies.
* Ensure that alternative provision is appropriate, meets statutory requirements, and supports the aspirations of pupils who are disengaged from mainstream education. · Maintain and manage a caseload, ensuring accurate and timely records in line with service policies.
* Carry out home visits and make informed judgments about visit frequency based on the child’s needs.
* Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings, including Child in Need, Early Help, and assessment meetings.
* Be mindful of SEND legislation and the Code of Practice in all areas of your work.
Essential Experience Required.
* Experience of working as part of a team and contributing to service development.
* Experience working with children, young people, and families—particularly in education, health, or social care settings.
* A solid understanding of safeguarding practices and relevant legislation relating to Elective Home Education, Exclusions, CME, EBSA, SEND, and school attendance.
Essential Qualifications Required
* Qualification in Relevant Field Of Work

* Full UK driving License Is Required.
