Clinical Nurse Specialist - Sexual Health in North West Prisons
Independent expert practitioner responsible for the assessment of those patients who present with sexual health needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of a holistic programme of evidence-based, confidential contraception and sexual health care in the health and justice setting.
The applicant will be expected to provide autonomous Level 1 and 2 sexual health services in Spectrum’s Health and Justice Settings in the NorthWest (HMPs Liverpool/Forest Bank/Hindley/Haverigg/Styal/Buckley Hall). The post-holder will be expected to work without direct supervision, as part of the wider healthcare team providing care for patients in accordance with the standards and guidelines set by the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (FSRH) and the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH). The post-holder will also actively promote good sexual health through the provision of health promotion and health education.
Using a Trauma Informed approach to care interactions and interventions the post holder will be responsible for the delivery of advanced nursing skills within complex patient care pathways requiring analysis interpretation and application of personal judgements to provide the correct level of care and treatment. This will include those who may need additional consideration due to their complex social, emotional, psychological and physical needs (mental health, learning disabilities, young people, 18-21 with complex lives e.g exploitation) identified and/or referred through various channels within the prison setting. It may require on occasion that these patients are seen outside of the routine clinical environment ie. on the wing.
Take the lead role in conjunction with and guidance of the local Level 3 provision, ensuring level 1 and 2 needs are met within the prison and any onward referral for level 3 care, is timely, working with the local level 3 provider to ensure care pathways are established, maintained and followed. There is a requirement to comply with clinical systems, protocols and guidelines.
Responsible for the teaching, mentoring and assessment of students and staff within the department and foster a learning culture.
