Job overview
East Lancashire Hospitals Trust Podiatry service provides a dynamic, flexible, responsive and solution-focused holistic service for a patient case load including Diabetes, Vascular Disease, Connective Tissue Disease, Rheumatological conditions, and Wound care.
Main duties of the job
The Podiatry service undertakes primarily at-risk clinical work including wound care, nail surgery, and biomechanics. The Podiatry service does not provide a social nail cutting service.
As a result of an Apprentice Post within the NHS, we have an exciting opportunity that has arisen within the East Lancashire Hospitals Trust for the full-time position of Apprentice Podiatrist.
The post holder will be employed for the period of the apprenticeship within ELHT and will undertake study at the University of Huddersfield as part of this apprenticeship.
This is a developmental role. You will work towards successful completion of a BSc (Hons) degree in podiatry, recognized by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Allied Health Professions Podiatrist. You will develop and maintain knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the role of Podiatrist with the service and through completion of the Podiatry training program which includes working in clinic and community care settings and delivery of direct person-centered care. Whilst undertaking this training, you will work within the service as a podiatry assistant.

The successful candidate will have a corporate and local departmental induction with a dedicated mentor and will have a 6-month preceptorship period during which they will complete a competency framework.
You will receive support from your Team Leader and Clinical Specialist Podiatrist within the team.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Apprentice Podiatry program combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers. As an apprentice podiatrist, you will be based, as an employee, within ELHT working in clinical and community settings in order that you gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts to enable you to fulfill all the requirements of the BSc (Hons) Podiatry program.
Person specification
* Minimum of five GCSE grade 4-9 or equivalent which must include Maths and English and a Science
* Qualification and Credit framework Level 3 in care or equivalent in terms of both academic attainment
* Demonstrate ability to study at Level 6 Honors degree level and commit to completing the honors degree
* Previous experience of working within a health care setting
* Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and developmental needs, seeking advice where appropriate
* Understanding the scope of the role of Podiatrist and Podiatry assistant in context of the team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development
* Understanding evidence-based practice
* Completion of HCA development program
* Understanding of basic physiology
* Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a Multi-disciplinary team
* Essential induction training and experience- care certificate or equivalent

* Driving License and ability to travel between clinical locations

Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS)

The healthcare sector is exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
In line with other NHS organisations in the North West Region, the Trust is now passing the charge for undertaking a DBS check on to candidates in the event they are successfully appointed into the post for which they have applied. Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary. However, if you are applying for a post as a BANK worker, the payment must be made in full at the time of employment checks. By applying for this vacancy you are agreeing to this undertaking in the event you are successfully appointed.
The cost of an Enhanced Disclosure will be £55.38 and for a Standard Disclosure will be £27.38.
