We are seeking a Senior Risk & Policy Manager to provide strategic oversight of safety risk and policy for SGN.
Responsibilities
* Strategic leadership by taking full ownership of the SGN Safety Risk operating model, ensuring we deploy our expertise where the risk is greatest.
* Overseeing policy adoption and assurance outputs to ensure consistent, high-standard safety domains across the entire business.
* Designing and delivering a multi-year roadmap for specialist risk interventions that align perfectly with our SMS and engineering standards.
* Providing senior leadership with evidence‑based insights on risk, resource allocation, and the systemic improvements needed to keep us evolving.
* Leading and inspiring our Risk & Policy Leads, ensuring their performance is directly tied to our strategic safety outcomes.
Requirements
* NEBOSH National Diploma (or equivalent) & Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Risk Management or related discipline – or significant equivalent working experience.
* Deep expertise in Safety Management Systems (SMS), specifically policy governance and assurance.
* Mastery of risk-based prioritisation and scoring to guide strategic resource allocation.
* Ability to translate complex assurance findings into actionable policy or treatment plans.
* High-level influencing skills, with confidence to advise and challenge senior leadership using evidence‑based insights.
* 6+ years’ experience in high-risk, regulated industries (Gas or Utilities experience highly advantageous).
* Proven track record of leading strategic safety or enterprise-level risk programmes.
* Experience managing senior specialists and navigating third‑party safety resource partnerships.
* Direct experience embedding assurance insights into SMS and risk framework improvements.
