Overview
With a strong confirmed order book and a growing pipeline of multi‑disciplinary projects—including highways/roads, major infrastructure works, substations, transmission and distribution reinforcement, and onshore cabling—we have an exciting opportunity for a Project Civil Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team in Glasgow or Edinburgh.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a Project Civil Engineer, you will lead the production of design packages for the concept, tender, detailed and construction phases of infrastructure projects. You will develop civil engineering designs for highways/roads, access tracks, bridges, retaining structures, drainage systems and associated works, with a focus on buildability, value engineering, cost effectiveness and compliance with environmental, health and safety standards.
Responsibilities
* Create concept designs for planning and third‑party consents/approvals.
* Develop sustainable drainage proposals and coordinate with statutory consultees such as Local Authorities, SEPA and EA.
* Collaborate with geotechnical, structural, environmental and planning teams to deliver integrated multi‑disciplinary solutions.
* Manage design packages as the client’s point of contact, ensuring timely delivery to programme and budget.
* Apply HSQE principles, identify hazards, mitigate risks and communicate residual risks effectively.
* Produce high‑quality design outputs and support project delivery throughout the lifecycle.
* Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, contractors and statutory bodies.
* Contribute to quality assurance processes and ensure all deliverables meet the highest standards of accuracy and compliance.
Qualifications
* BSc, BEng, MSc or MEng degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
* Graduate membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or similar; progression toward professional accreditation is supported through our ICE‑approved training scheme.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and drainage design software such as Causeway Flow or MicroDrainage.
* Knowledge of DMRB standards, sustainable drainage design and hydraulic modelling.
* Experience managing design packages and coordinating inputs from multiple disciplines.
* Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage workload and client requirements.
* Excellent communication skills, able to prepare technical reports and present design solutions clearly.
* Full UK driving licence is required due to site visits and travel.
Mandatory Requirements
Full UK driving licence. Graduate membership of ICE or equivalent desirable. Progression toward professional accreditation supported.
Work Patterns and Locations
The role is based in either Glasgow or Edinburgh with an expectation of at least two days per week on site. Hybrid working is available with flexibility aligned with project and client requirements.
