Hours: 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday

Staffline Recruitment Ireland is currently recruiting for a Deputy Legal Officer on behalf of DAERA, Veterinary Medicines and Residues Policy (JH).
The Role
This role involves supporting the interpretation and application of EU and domestic legislation within the veterinary medicines and residues policy area.
The Deputy Legal Officer will assist in assessing legislative and operational compliance, working closely with DSO officials and legal professionals to respond to queries and support policy development.
The role also includes stakeholder engagement, project support, and contributing to the development and delivery of effective legislative and regulatory frameworks.
This position is ideal for someone with developing legal and policy experience who is confident supporting senior colleagues while working independently on complex and detailed legislative work.
Key Responsibilities
8. Interpret EU and domestic legislation to assess compliance and operational compatibility
9. Work with DSO officials and legal professionals to respond to legal queries
10. Support the development and introduction of regulations or primary legislation via the NI Assembly and/or Westminster
11. Assist in drafting regulations and transcribing EU legislation
12. Contribute to policy and legislative development activity
13. Engage with stakeholders through co-design, consultation, and evaluation processes
14. Maintain and build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
15. Support project management activity and promote good governance
16. Assist senior colleagues with communication, reporting, and presentations
Essential Criteria
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
17. Minimum of 6 months' experience interpreting EU and domestic legislation to assess compliance and compatibility
18. Experience working with legal professionals and responding to legal queries
19. Experience maintaining and building relationships with key stakeholders
20. Expeirence in project management
21. Experience supporting senior colleagues using strong communication and presentation skills
Desirable Criteria
22. Knowledge of the Windsor Framework Agreement or willingness to learn
23. Experience introducing regulations or primary legislation via the NI Assembly and/or Westminster
24. Experience drafting regulations
25. Experience transcribing EU legislation
26. Experience developing policy and legislation using evidence-based approaches (research, policy options, stakeholder engagement, evaluation)
27. Project Management certification
