What will I be doing?
You’ll take ownership of a portfolio of key client contracts worth over £1.2m annually. Your role is to ensure compliance, profitability, and exceptional customer service through proactive management and expert advice.
In Practice, That Means
* Managing existing customer budgets and performance, identifying opportunities to enhance value.
* Conducting annual contract renewals and gap analyses to ensure compliance and efficiency.
* Working closely with internal teams from plumbing to risk assessment to deliver on‑site works seamlessly.
* Leading client meetings, building long‑term trust, and providing technical guidance on compliance and water hygiene best practice.
* After completing internal training, becoming confident in delivering specialised City & Guilds‑accredited courses and in training others to deliver them such as Responsible Person and Swimming Pool training.
* Supporting new tenders and bids with on‑site insights and technical input.
* You’ll be the face of SMS – the go‑to partner your clients rely on to get it right, first time.

You’ll bring both technical expertise and people skills able to build credibility quickly, think commercially, and communicate clearly with everyone you meet.
Heres What Will Help You Succeed
* Around 8+ years experience in the water hygiene industry, with strong technical knowledge aligned to L8 ACOP.
* Specialist understanding of at least one key area, e.g. Cooling Towers, Healthcare, or Other Risk Systems.
* Excellent organisational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
* The ability to manage multiple contracts with precision and care.
* IT literacy (Microsoft packages) and confidence with reporting tools.
* Ideally, Health & Safety qualifications such as NEBOSH (or equivalent).

Job Purpose
You will be handling a number of large, longstanding, key client portfolios with an annual turnover value of circa £1,200,000+. You will ensure contracts are compliant and profitable through regular gap analysis, remedial works requested by clients, to include ethical upselling/cross‑selling inline with guidance/legislation/compliance. The role of a Senior Account Manager is key to ensuring high customer service and compliance for clients, with an expectation to travel to see clients and carry out site visits.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
* Ensure all contracts comply and run in accordance with all current health and safety law, statutory legislation, regulations and guidance.
* Ensure that clients are aware and aid them with the management of their hazards on Opuz.
* Manage existing customer budgets and profitability, developing full sales potential and ensure payment terms are met.
* Carry out annual contract renewals including gap analysis.
* Ensuring that contractual obligations are met.
* Programme/tailor customer contracts providing advice and guidance to customers as required.
* Raise quotations and tasks from customer queries and hazards.
* Liaise with other departments (i.e. plumbing, risk assessment teams) to ensure works are planned and completed as per contract requirement.
* Ensure contracts achieve high KPI percentages.
* Attend and present at external customer meetings.
* Attend client places of work and provide legionella awareness training.
* To be confident in training others to then start delivering (following internal training) a specialised City and Guilds training course for clients and employees e.g. responsible persons training, swimming pool training etc.
* Assist with the tenders, new bids and marketing. This will be in the form of site visits, review parts of tenders and completing costing exercises for the tender submission.
* Attend training to develop relevant knowledge, technique and skills.
* Adhere to Health & Safety policy and other requirements relating to care of equipment.

* Specialist knowledge and proven experiences in one specific area of water treatment, e.g. Cooling Towers, Other Risk Systems, Healthcare.
Key Qualifications
* Health & Safety knowledge/qualifications i.e. NEBOSH or equivalent (desirable).
