Caterpillar Peterlee is the worldwide source of Cat® Articulated Trucks, currently producing an eight‑model range used in many industries including mining, construction and aggregates. The facility’s manufacturing activities use the latest computer analysis techniques, robotic technology and automated dump‑body paint plant. The Opportunity

We’re seeking someone who can confidently coordinate across engineering functions, provide clear technical direction, and ensure design intent is understood and delivered accurately throughout the integration process. The ideal candidate will collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, resolve complex interface issues with sound engineering judgment, and maintain momentum by communicating requirements, risks, and solutions with precision. You’ll foster a proactive, quality‑driven approach within the team, helping colleagues stay aligned, informed, and focused on delivering robust, integrated design outcomes.


Job Duties/Responsibilities May Include, But Are Not Limited To

* Researching new materials and competitive products; organising, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.
* Assisting supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and supplier performance; overseeing the efforts of drafting and testing specialists.
* Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating them into detail design documents; participating in buy‑build analysis for product components.
* Participating in and supporting proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports.
* Budgeting and budget‑management support activities.
* Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.


Degree Requirement

Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Mechanical, Agricultural, Aerospace, Civil, Metallurgical or related engineering curriculum is required.


Skills, Experience & Qualifications You Will Have

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviours; collaborating on complex designs and initiatives with global teams.

Product Design and Development: Proficiency in CREO or other CAD tools; knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production; understanding of manufacturing processes and capabilities to ensure design promotes efficient and quality manufacturability.

Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self‑management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritising and time allocation.

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of technical problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.


Top Candidates Will Also Have

* Extensive experience collaborating across multiple teams and business units globally.
* Strong communication skills.
* Proficiency in CREO Simulate or other CAE tools.
* Executed all phases of a new product development program.
* Experience collaborating with manufacturers or suppliers to optimise designs for manufacturability.
