The successful candidate will need excellent communication skills and be able to prioritise their workload, which can vary throughout the day.

Main duties of the job
The Ward Clerk role is diverse. Key tasks include:
* Being the first point of contact for relatives and staff, face-to-face and on the phone.
* Maintaining patient case notes to high standards.
* Supporting clinical teams with administrative duties to facilitate patient care.
* Updating and maintaining electronic inpatient records.
* Booking follow-up appointments post-discharge.
* Providing efficient administrative support to the ward.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• Handle reception duties, address patient inquiries, direct patients, and ensure effective communication.
• Answer calls and take messages.
• Report repairs to the ward manager and coordinate with the works department.
• Arrange Day Case, Ward Attender, and booked admissions as per Ward Manager instructions.
• Monitor ward activity.
• Arrange ambulances and outpatient appointments as needed.
• Liaise with other departments and disciplines.
• Ensure reports and referral letters are escalated timely.
• Prepare medical administration documents.
• Prioritise workload and work independently.
• Maintain case notes according to guidelines, ensuring accuracy before release.
• Communicate effectively with other health professionals regarding patient discharge.
• Prepare for doctors' ward rounds and maintain filing systems.
• Cover for other ward clerks during absence.
• Assist with staff training.
• Support Health and Safety at work.
• Update patient ICS computer system and Bed management Module.
• Comply with confidentiality and data protection legislation, including the Caldicott Report, Data Protection Act, and Access to Health Records Act.
