Role: Consultant Physician specialist in Respiratory Medicine (replacement) within a team of eight Consultant Physicians, supporting general medical in‑patients.
Dedicated office space, secretarial support, and a mentor will be allocated for induction.

Key responsibilities
* Provide a comprehensive Respiratory Medicine service, including diagnostic bronchoscopy and expert opinion.
* Offer acute unselected medicine on‑call, oversee a full ward commitment (13‑18 patients) as named treating Consultant.
* Deliver Consultant supervision to a multidisciplinary team (1 middle grade, 1 clinical fellow, 1 foundation year doctor).
* Provide respiratory input to other wards via the specialist referral process.
* Engage in management, audit, risk management, and Governance activities.
* Represent the service at Hospital meetings and support the Medical Services Care Group.
* Participate in an 8‑month in‑hospital rotation with a 1:8 on‑call rota, covering all inpatient emergencies.
On‑call rota
* Weekday: 8:00–8:00 the next day, with 5 pm ward round and overnight post‑take of non‑EASY patients.
* Weekend/bank holiday: 8:00 and 5:00 ward rounds and discharges.
Specialty profile
* High incidence of smoking‑related illnesses; 150 outpatient referrals/month and ~5 bronchoscopies/month.
* Access to comprehensive diagnostic facilities: full lung function testing, sleep studies, CPAP, LTOT, nebulisers, and a dedicated asthmatic clinic.
* Strong links with Southampton General Hospital for cancer surgery, thoracic services, and TB/HIV management.
* Collaborative MDT meetings with radiology, oncology, histopathology, and palliative care.
Management structure
* Health and Care Jersey – directorate overseeing specialist health care.
* Medical Services Care Group – includes Emergency, Cardiology, Diabetes, Oncology, Palliative Medicine, Radiology, and Respiratory departments.
* Consultants supervise SAS doctors, clinical fellows, and foundation doctors.
Person specification
* Leadership & Management: Evidence of clinical leadership, multi‑disciplinary teamwork, communication, teaching, and change management.
* Personal attributes: Flexibility, motivation, hepatitis vaccination.
* Experience: Broad general medicine and respiratory work, bronchoscopy, NIV/CPAP services, teaching, and audit.
* Desirable: Management/leadership role, pleural procedure skill, sleep study experience, respiratory SCE, advanced degrees (MSc, MD, PhD).
* Qualifications: Primary medical degree, full GMC registration, specialist registration, MRCP or equivalent, CCT within 6 months of interview (UK‑trained) or equivalence proof (non‑UK‑trained).
Contract & salary
* Schedule: Permanent, full‑time (consultant).
* Salary range: £114,667.80 – £170,947.54 per annum.
