Overview
We are looking for a highly motivated professional to join our Housing Asset & Development Team, to help promote and facilitate the provision of new housing within the borough. The role involves working with partners such as MLCHG, Homes England, registered providers, private developers, parish councils, local landowners and communities, and proactively engaging with development and community interests to remove barriers and boost the delivery of new homes. The role also supports preparing and maintaining a Housing Development Strategy and maintaining an up-to-date understanding of opportunities to support housing growth and the Council’s Housing Strategy.
Responsibilities
* Enable and optimise the delivery of affordable housing and act as the key link between stakeholders to meet the Council’s affordable housing objectives.
* Identify and facilitate potential development opportunities and delivery mechanisms, including innovative solutions such as land assembly and identifying stalled sites where national funding could unlock development.
* Prepare and maintain a Housing Development Strategy for the business and monitor opportunities to support housing growth.
* Work with partners and communities to remove barriers to delivery and promote collaboration across stakeholders.
What you need to know
* The role will be hybrid, however as you’ll be responsible for managing a team, there is an expectation that at least 3 days will be spent in the office/on site.
* There will be a requirement to occasionally work outside of normal working hours, to attend Cabinet and Scrutiny sessions.

Qualifications and experience
* Degree in Town Planning or Development Surveying, or 5 years relevant experience is essential.
* Current sound knowledge and understanding of the broad housing agenda and local, regional and national housing, planning and regeneration policies is essential.
* Experience of the housing development environment is essential.
* A track record of leading and delivering projects in partnership to achieve outcomes within the housing sector is essential.
* An understanding of the local authority strategic housing function is essential.
