Job Summary

Join Our Forward Thinking Cardiology Team – Make a Lasting Impact on Patients with Complex Arrhythmias. Are you a driven and compassionate nurse with a passion for cardiology and a vision for career development? This is your opportunity to join our dynamic, patient‑centred Arrhythmia Team in a Band 6 development role, with a clear pathway to a Band 7 Specialist Nurse post following completion of independent prescribing and agreed competencies.

In this pivotal role you will work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team of cardiac physiologists, consultants, specialist nurses, and electrophysiology professionals, managing patients with a range of complex arrhythmias across outpatient, inpatient, and community settings.

We are proud of our supportive learning environment, where innovation is encouraged and professional development is actively championed. As a Band 6 Nurse you will receive structured mentorship and training to develop advanced clinical assessment and decision‑making skills, working toward autonomy as a Band 7 Arrhythmia Specialist Nurse.

We’re seeking a motivated and adaptable nurse with cardiology experience (ideally within arrhythmia or device management), excellent communication skills, and a genuine enthusiasm for professional growth. You’ll be supported every step of the way to become a confident, autonomous Arrhythmia Specialist Nurse at Band 7 level.

Main Duties of the Job

* Conduct structured patient assessments, including history, symptom analysis, ECG interpretation, and review of remote device data for patients with arrhythmias and implanted cardiac devices.
* Provide patient education on lifestyle, anticoagulation, symptom management, and device care; support self‑management and virtual consultations.
* Support, and gradually lead, nurse‑led arrhythmia clinics (e.g., atrial fibrillation, SVT, bradycardia) under supervision, increasing autonomy as competencies are achieved.
* Collaborate with consultants and the multidisciplinary team to contribute to shared decision‑making and personalised care plans.
* Interpret remote device transmissions and manage alerts/escalations as part of the cardiac monitoring service.
* Assist in inpatient review and management of arrhythmias, including pre‑/post‑electrophysiology procedures and device implantation.
* Support cardioversion preparation and follow‑up in collaboration with the consultant and EP team.
* Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all clinical interactions.
* Engage in service development, audits, quality improvement initiatives, and pathway development to enhance care pathways.
* Participate in professional development: complete independent prescribing, advance clinical competencies, and attend CPD and specialist training.

Professional Development

* Undertake an approved Independent Non‑Medical Prescribing course.
* Participate in the department’s specialist competency framework to transition into a Band 7 post.
* Attend arrhythmia‑specific training courses, study days, and conferences as part of CPD.
* Engage in clinical supervision and reflective practice.

Service Development and Quality Improvement

* Participate in audits, patient feedback initiatives, and service evaluations to support evidence‑based improvements in arrhythmia care.
* Contribute to pathway development for atrial fibrillation, syncope, post‑implant follow‑up, and virtual monitoring services.
* Support innovation in nurse‑led services and digital health technologies (e.g., virtual clinics, wearable monitoring).

Key Working Relationships

* Work closely with Consultant Electrophysiologists, Cardiologists, Cardiac Physiologists, and Specialist Nurses within cardiology.
* Collaborate with GPs and community heart‑failure teams to ensure safe, integrated care.
* Liaise with admissions, inpatient wards, outpatient departments, and day‑case units to support smooth patient journeys.
* Engage with administrative and clerical staff to ensure efficient clinic management, booking, and communication.

Leadership and Communication

* Act as a role model for high standards of nursing care and professionalism within the cardiology department.
* Provide informal education and support to ward staff, students, and junior nurses regarding arrhythmia care.
* Communicate effectively with patients and their families, using empathy and clarity, including discussions about long‑term device therapy and treatment options.
* Contribute to departmental meetings, service reviews, and multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions.

Person Specification – Essential Qualifications

* NMC Registered Nurse (Adult)
* Significant post‑registration experience in cardiology
* Evidence of CPD in cardiac/arrhythmia care
* Excellent communication and team‑working skills
* Ability to manage own workload and prioritise effectively
* Willingness to undertake prescribing course and specialist competencies

Person Specification – Desirable Qualifications

* Previous experience with cardiac rhythm management or device patients
* ECG interpretation and arrhythmia recognition skills
* Experience in running or supporting nurse‑led clinics
* Teaching/mentorship qualification
* Experience supporting junior staff or students

Essential Knowledge and Experience

* Knowledge of arrhythmia conditions and treatment pathways
* Awareness of safeguarding, risk assessment, consent and clinical governance
* Ability to analyse and interpret data (e.g., ECGs, device reports)
* Understanding of national guidelines
* Enthusiastic and motivated to develop into Band 7
* Demonstrates initiative and proactive approach
* Able to work flexibly and adapt to service needs
* Team player with a collaborative approach
* Reliable, well‑organised and professional
