Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist team to work trust-wide. This split role involves working as part of both the lung cancer screening team and the lung cancer clinical nurse specialist team. The post plays a pivotal role in delivering the national lung cancer screening programme and supporting patients on the lung cancer pathway as a core member of the specialist multi‑disciplinary team.
Responsibilities
* Provide continuous delegated responsibility for a caseload of patients and deliver an effective, patient‑focused service.
* Organise, prioritise and evaluate workload based on accepted referral and discharge criteria in line with operational protocols.
* Provide clinical, social and psychological support to patients using excellent communication skills and education to enable optimal independence and health.
* Provide specialist advice, supervision and support to defined caseload and peers.
* Provide evidence‑based practice and support the Band 7 CNS team leader and Band 7 screening nurse in leading agreed aspects of the service.
* Develop care systems, protocols and guidelines as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and build inter‑departmental relationships focused on quality improvement.
* Ensure cost‑effective use of resources and appropriate governance management.
* Promote programmes of health education and health promotion relevant to the service.
* Work within national policy frameworks and trust local guidance.
Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse (RGN).
* Degree or equivalent level of education or experience.
* Current CPD evidence.
Experience
* Post‑registration experience, including experience in a relevant clinical specialty.
* Experience of caseload assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of care programmes demonstrating knowledge of specific patient needs.
* Experience of participating in clinical audit.
