Horticultural Trainee - Residential Red Zone

What's involved:
As a Horticultural Trainee, you'll undertake a three-year training programme. You'll work alongside Red Zone field staff, supporting a wide range of maintenance activities and improvements across Christchurch's Residential Red Zone parks. Along the way, you'll gain essential skills and hands-on experience in amenity horticulture and biodiversity maintenance.
With hard work and dedication, you'll complete your National Certificate in Horticulture (Levels 3 & 4) and be ready to take the next step in your career. You'll need to be confident working in small teams, have a strong awareness of health and safety, and be willing to take initiative. Being personable, approachable, and open to engaging in community-organised events is also important.

About the role:
* Carry out maintenance tasks within the Residential Red Zone, including mowing, vegetation management, pest plant and animal control, and supporting ecological restoration.
* Commit to studying toward your NCEA Level 3 and 4 Horticultural Qualifications.
* Apply best practices for health and safety as outlined by Christchurch City Council staff.
Requirements:
* A current full driver's licence.
Additional information:
* Hours of work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (occasional weekend work), between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.
* Salary: Living wage - $27.80/hour.
* Location: Based at the Pages Road Parks Depot, Bromley.
