Temporary Teaching Assistant (Level 4) (1 year contract)
Hours: 32½ hours Per Week – Term Time Only

Salary: Grade 7 - £31,022 x 77.15%

Required from: September 2026 for a nursery class.


Trehopcyn Primary School is a happy and successful primary school with a strong caring and inclusive ethos situated in the heart of the community. The school currently has 110 pupils on roll split across 4 classes, including a full time Nursery.

The Headteacher and Governing Body of Trehopcyn Primary School are seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant (Level 4) to become an integral part of our school community and lead the nursery provision in the next academic year. The successful applicant needs to have a passion for Early Years and be dedicated to providing a forward-thinking approach to Early Years Education.

This is an excellent opportunity for a practitioner to join our nurturing, supportive, friendly team and provide outstanding opportunities for our pupils as we plan, deliver and review our exciting Curriculum @TEAMTREHOPCYN.

We are seeking an outstanding Nursery classroom practitioner who is passionate about nurturing and inspiring our youngest learners within a caring, forward-thinking environment. The successful candidate will be committed to fostering curiosity, independence, and a love of learning through high-quality Early Years pedagogy and practice.

A strong understanding of, or experience in supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) is essential, alongside a compassionate, inclusive approach that ensures every child can thrive.

The ideal candidate will:

•Strong understanding of child development pathways, including cognitive, social, emotional, and physical milestones in early years

•Knowledge of key frameworks such as the Early Years Non-Maintained Curriculum and Curriculum for Wales, and the ability to apply these effectively within a mixed-age Foundation Learning class in a small primary school.

•Experience of supporting and promoting independent learning through play-based, enquiry-led, and child-centred approaches.

•Skilled in observing, assessing, and tracking children’s progress to inform responsive planning and next steps in learning.

•Ability to plan and deliver engaging, creative learning experiences tailored to a range of ages, abilities, and developmental stages within mixed classes.

•Competence in creating enabling indoor and outdoor learning environments that foster curiosity, wellbeing, and active learning.

•Understanding of inclusive practice and experience supporting pupils with diverse learning needs within a nurturing classroom environment.

•Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with children, families, colleagues, and the wider school community.

•Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a small-school team, contributing positively to whole-school life.

•Good organisational skills, including maintaining accurate records, assessments, and observations to support pupil progress.

•Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and a strong commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of all children.

•Reflective practitioner with a commitment to continuous professional learning and professional development.

•Understanding of the value of outdoor learning and continuous provision in supporting children’s holistic development.

•Passion for Foundation Learning and for supporting all children to thrive, achieve, and reach their full potential in a caring small-school environment
