The Role
NHSGGC – Burns Unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary – offers an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated team. The Burns Unit receives patients from across Scotland who require specialist burn care, including complex injuries, rehabilitation and advanced treatments. The unit works closely with ITU and Theatres to deliver burn care that promotes healing function and the best possible outcomes. A strong focus on the patient journey and recovery requires many health care professionals.
The post holder will work within a team of Registered Nurses and Health Care Support Workers to ensure the safe delivery of care. Candidates must have a flexible approach to the daily routine and an ability to prioritise circumstances and situations arising throughout the day. As part of the nursing team the role includes communicating with other departments such as Estates, Supplies and Stores to support a safe and efficient environment.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
* Location: Glasgow Royal Infirmary
* Contract: Permanent
* Hours: Part‑time (18.36 hours per week)
* Shift pattern: Monday to Friday – 4 days per week
Key Responsibilities
* Cleaning: The post holder will monitor cleanliness and influence the quality of cleaning standards in the department, ensuring predetermined standards are consistently met. This includes daily cleaning lists completion and standard operating procedures for cleaning of near‑patient equipment. Liaison with domestic services for ad hoc cleaning tasks such as spot cleaning, secondary cleaning, and terminal/deep cleans.
* Maintenance: Ensure the clinical area is in good state of repair, highlight and report repairs to the SCN, use the reporting platform to request repairs, and report Health and Safety issues while monitoring follow‑up actions.
* Catering: Liaise with the dietary kitchen to ensure supplies meet the needs of the patient group, and communicate with nursing teams to identify meal service needs.
* Patients: Support patients’ recovery, assist with belongings – ensuring they are kept safe and transferred safely if necessary – and assist patients with non‑clinical needs.
* Systems: Basic information technology skills are essential.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
* Essential Qualifications & Education: Good standard of education. Willingness to learn new skills.
* Desirable Qualifications & Education: Information technology skills.
* Essential Experience: Experience of dealing with the public. Previous relevant experience in healthcare, cleaning and/or housekeeping.
* Desirable Experience: Previous experience of working in a changing role or organisation.
