Job overview
We are looking to appoint a Locum Consultant Paediatrician. This is an opportunity to join the enthusiastic and friendly paediatric department in Wigan. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of acute paediatric/neonatal care at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary. The post is advertised as standard 10 PA generic post.
Main duties of the job
This post is to supplement the current consultants to deliver acute paediatric/neonatal care at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary. The appointee will see patients at the outpatients on the Thomas Linacre and Leigh Infirmary. There are visiting clinics in cardiology, neurology, nephrology, urology and allergy by specialists from the tertiary hospitals in the region.
Paediatric surgical facilities are on the RAEI site as is the A&E Department for the Wigan and Leigh district. This has been redeveloped and includes a self-contained Paediatric Emergency care centre. All acute children’s admissions are seen here.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
Qualifications
* MB ChB or equivalent
* MRCPCH, MRCP or equivalent
* CCT and/or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within 6 months of completion of training at the date of interview
* Full GMC Registration
* Up to date APLS and NLS provider certificates
* A higher qualification eg MD, PhD
* APLS and/or NLS Instructor
Skills
* Management of a wide range of general paediatric and neonatal problems
* Level 3 Safeguarding Training
* Safeguarding Experience
* Understanding of NHS management responsibilities of consultants
* Ability to work in a team with professional colleagues both medical and other disciplines
* Experience of supervision of junior staff and relevant staff in other disciplines
* Practical Experience
* Attendance at appropriate professional meetings and courses
* IT and computing skills
* Attendance at appropriate management courses
* Previous participation in a management role
* Membership of appropriate professional societies
Knowledge
* Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a commitment to these within the Trust
* Awareness of research methods and ability to critically appraise a scientific paper
* Attendance at courses in teaching, appraisal and mentorship
* Evidence of recent and current research with relevant publications
Additional
* Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and their relatives in all disciplines
* Ability to lead the development of services and promote best practice amongst colleagues
