Engineering – Multi Skilled Engineer
Location: Kara Foodservice, Manchester
Shift: Rotating shift, 4 on 4 off 12 hour shifts, Days and Nights

We have an exciting opportunity for a Multi Skilled Engineer to join our Engineering team at our Kara site as part of Finsbury Food Group. Established in 1985, Kara offers a wide range of quality sweet and savoury bakery products, including both gourmet butter and vegan brioche buns, doughballs and teacakes. The Kara Bakery can bake over 1 million baps and burger buns every day.
The Multi Skilled Engineer is an onsite fast‑paced role that will be responsible for working as an active part of our cross‑functional maintenance team. You will need excellent electrical and mechanical engineering skills along with strong organisational abilities to function our site CMMS system. You will work within the Engineering department and use a detailed and thorough approach to maintenance work, with a proven track record of fault‑finding.
To be successful, you will have good communication skills, be able to mentor and coach other engineers and production operators, and actively participate in our continuous improvement culture, identifying opportunities to improve efficiencies and reduce site waste and maintenance spends.
This is what you’ll actually do!
* Take ownership of site breakdowns and ensure quick diagnosis with corrective action.
* Use the CMMS system to provide detailed reports.
* Ensure that the correct Health and Safety, Food Safety and Hygiene standards are followed at all times, while adhering to good working practices.
* Help the team complete planned maintenance on a strict schedule, continually looking for improvements to ensure reliability and support site efficiency targets.
* Participate in learning and development opportunities and take an active role in project developments.
Ideally this is you!
* Time‑served apprentice or NVQ Level 3 equivalent.
* Skills in both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
* CompEx training beneficial.
* Strong communication skills.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Previous experience in fault‑finding.
* Achievement of 17th edition electrical certification.
* PLC programming capability.
* Ability to mentor and coach other engineers.
* Keen to play an active role in the future development of the site and engineering function.
* General PC skills.
* Previous food manufacturing experience beneficial.
