ECT Deputy Clinical Lead - Parklands Hospital

The Parklands Hospital ECT Clinic provides Electroconvulsive Therapy for the Mid & North Division of Hampshire & the Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, delivering treatment to both inpatient & community services. We want you to join us in supporting our Lead ECT Nurse as we shape the continued delivery of high quality care.

We are seeking a Band 6 RN/ODP ECT Deputy Clinical Lead (twenty two and a half hours per week) to support the day to day running of the clinic & ensure the safe & effective delivery of the ECT service at Parklands Hospital.

Our friendly, supportive, & dynamic multidisciplinary team—comprising nurses, psychiatrists, anaesthetists, & operating department practitioners—shares a clear vision of delivering excellent patient centred care. The clinic is accredited by ECTAS, reflecting our commitment to best practice, quality improvement, & meeting national standards.

The service currently runs two clinics per week. The role includes ECT assessment, post treatment care, audit, & supporting adherence to Electroconvulsive Therapy Accreditation Service (ECTAS) requirements. You will work closely with the Lead ECT Nurse, contribute to service development, & support education for referring teams.

Strong leadership, communication, & the ability to support colleagues are essential. Previous or current experience in ECT is desirable.


Main duties of the job

The ECT Deputy Clinical Lead will support the Parklands Hospital ECT Service by providing advanced clinical knowledge, decision making & leadership. Working alongside the ECT Lead Nurse, the post holder will manage patient care episodes, carry out pre & post treatment assessments, support referrals & act up in the Lead Nurse's absence. As a core member of the ECT team, the post holder must demonstrate strong expertise in delivering high quality ECT care & supervising staff within the department.

The role involves close partnership working with internal & external professionals to ensure services meet national & local quality & safety standards. Duties include completing clinical assessments, offering advice to colleagues, patients and families, supporting student training and contributing to induction programmes. The post holder will lead and supervise staff during allocated ECT sessions, participate in audits, service evaluation and personal development planning.

The role requires working every Monday and Friday in the ECT clinic, plus an additional day supporting administrative and management tasks. Flexibility may occasionally be required. The post holder must comply with Trust policies, mandatory training, infection prevention standards, safeguarding responsibilities and the Mental Capacity Act. They must maintain a safe working environment, follow incident reporting procedures and uphold the Trust's values through professional, compassionate and improvement focused behaviour.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse Mental Health with live NMC PIN/Operating Department Practitioner with live HCPC PIN.
* 1st Degree or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development
* Performing ECG's.
* Administer intravenous drugs and fluids and within appropriate guidelines.
* Enhanced knowledge of anaesthetic support practices which encompasses:
o Pre‑treatment clinical assessments and workup.
o Anaesthetic circuits and other equipment available within the treatment area.
o All related pharmacology including induction agents, depolarising muscle relaxants and emergency drugs.
o Identification of normal ECG and recognition of arrhythmias and their treatments.
o Oxygenation needs pre, during and post treatment.
o Care and protection of unconscious patients.
o Post anaesthetic care, complete recovery criteria and the principles involved.
