Director of Commercial Growth and Strategy
Reports to: Managing Director
Direct Reports: 9 Managers
Location: Inverness (with travel as required)
Hours: Full-time
Job Purpose
Our client, undergoing a significant cultural change, seeks to add a strategic role overseeing sales, purchasing, category management, and retail operations. The Commercial Director will lead company-wide commercial strategy, develop high-performing teams, and drive growth across products and customer segments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Commercial Strategy & Business Growth
* Develop and execute a commercial strategy aligned with the company's long-term goals.
* Identify and pursue new business opportunities, markets, and product innovations.
* Lead commercial planning, including pricing, promotions, and lifecycle decisions.
* Drive performance across sales teams, trade counters, and key accounts.
* Set and monitor sales targets, improve conversion, and customer retention.
* Manage strategic accounts and pipelines.
2. Retail, Inventory & Category Oversight
* Oversee category managers to optimize product ranges and supplier relationships.
* Coordinate with Retail Director and Inventory Manager to ensure store performance, stock availability, and cost control.
* Maintain margin integrity through purchasing, pricing, and inventory management.
3. Cross-functional Alignment
* Collaborate with Marketing, Operations, Finance, and HR to meet commercial objectives.
* Provide insights into market trends, competitors, and customer behavior.
* Develop and coach direct reports.
* Foster a collaborative culture focused on customer experience, innovation, and growth.
4. Reporting & Commercial Governance
* Manage sales forecasting, budgeting, and reporting.
* Report performance to the Managing Director regularly.
* Ensure commercial strategies align with business goals.
* Achieve revenue and margin growth, improve stock and supplier performance, and enhance sales performance.

Candidate Profile
* Proven senior leadership in distribution, trade, or B2B sectors.
* Track record of sales performance and growth.
* Strong commercial and leadership skills.
* Excellent influencing and communication abilities.
* Understanding of regional markets and rural customer needs.
* Experience with industrial or technical products.
* Background in retail or multi-location sales management.
* Familiarity with CRM, ERP, and analytics tools.
