Offer description

Overview

Laura Kyrke‑Smith MP is looking for a Constituency Assistant for her busy Aylesbury constituency office. The role is full‑time (part‑time considered) and permanent after a six‑month probation.

Responsibilities

* Support the smooth running of the MP’s inbox, ensuring correspondence is tagged and allocated correctly.
* Assist constituents with enquiries, log, track and follow up casework, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and sensitively.
* Attend constituency surgeries and meetings and assist with follow‑up actions.
* Provide administrative support to the team, including mail‑outs, booking tours and assisting with events.
* Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for constituency events or surgeries.

Qualifications & Skills

We are looking for someone who is organised, empathetic, approachable, and able to work effectively in a busy environment. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential. A background in constituency work or a willingness to learn is desirable, and understanding of Laura’s core priorities and the Labour Party’s aims and values is an asset but not a requirement.

Application Process

The closing date for applications is 9am Tuesday 7th April. Interviews are expected to take place week commencing 20th April in the Constituency Office. We will ideally be looking for someone to start as soon as possible.

Applicants should send their CV (max 2 pages) and a covering letter demonstrating how their skills and experiences meet the essential criteria. Include a short response (max 250 words) to the question: "What do you think are the most important qualities when supporting constituents who are experiencing difficult or stressful situations?"

Applicants must ensure that all material submitted reflects their own skills and experience. If AI tools are used to assist with drafting or editing any part of the application, this should be mentioned at the end of the covering letter.

Send the application to Michelle Montgomery, Head of Office, at Michelle.montgomery@parliament.uk. Include "Constituency Assistant Application" and your name in the subject line.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). Further information is available at https://w4mp.org/jobs-listings-events/jobs/members-staff-security-verification-questionnaire/.
