Plant Fitter – Hybrid/Mobile
Transmission & Distribution Ltd, Darlington, County Durham
Full‑time, Permanent – 24 weeks minimum familiarisation and training period. UK travel required.
Responsibilities
* Carry out mechanical maintenance and repairs on specialist OHL plant & equipment including winches, puller/tensioners, tractors, HGVs, and other specialist plant.
* Support mobilisation and demobilisation of plant for OHL projects.
* Conduct pre‑use inspections, fault finding, and routine servicing of mechanical systems.
* Carry out preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing in line with manufacturer and company standards.
* Ensure all repair work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
* Maintain accurate service and repair records in compliance with company procedures.
* Work on‑site to attend breakdowns and perform emergency repairs when required.
* Order and fit replacement parts, ensuring cost‑effective and timely repairs.
* Adhere to all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
* Communicate effectively with the workshop team, supervisors, and site managers regarding job progress and issues with plant and equipment.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining a clean and organised working environment.
Qualifications
Essential:
* Asbestos awareness
* COSHH awareness
* Emergency first aid at work
* Face‑to‑face test – Alphasolway
* Fire awareness
* Harness and fall arrest
* LOLER awareness
* Manual handling
* Environmental awareness
* Working at height awareness
Desirable:
* HAVS awareness
* ECITB abrasive wheels
* Spill management
* BORDA off‑road driver – 4x4 pick‑ups
* DVLA towing licence training and test
* Time served fitter with recognised qualifications (e.g. tractor dealership, plant, transport dealership, relevant construction company)
* HGV class 2 licence (class 1 desirable)
* CITB / CPCS or recognised equivalent lorry loader certificate desirable
* Digital tachograph card desirable
* Strap & chains – loads must be fully competent
* Fork‑lift / telehandler licence desirable
