Introduction
We’re delighted to be partnering with Family Building Society, an award-winning mutual with a proud history and a forward-thinking future, on the appointment of a Director of Finance.
This is a pivotal role within a purpose-driven organisation that combines strong values with innovation in mortgage and savings products. Reporting to the Group Chief Financial officer and working alongside a Director of Treasury and Director of FP&A, you’ll lead a team of 14 across Financial Control and Financial & Regulatory Reporting, ensuring the Society’s financial strength and integrity underpin its continued success.
It’s an opportunity not only to shape how the finance function operates today, but to help define how it will evolve — future-proofing systems, processes and people as the Society embraces automation and digital transformation. A key focus will be on automating data flows within the team.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide day-to-day leadership of the Finance team (14 colleagues across two core functions).
* Oversee preparation of the Group’s Annual Report and Accounts (including subsidiaries) and the Members’ Update.
* Manage the external audit process, year-end timetable, and reporting papers for the Board and auditors.
* Review and approve all regulatory returns (COREP, FINREP, PRA, MLAR, PSD, BTL, BOE). Lead the monthly management accounts process and sign-off of all FRS102 adjustments, including hedge accounting, EIR accounting, lifetime mortgages and investments fair value adjustments.
* Provide expert technical accounting advice on new and evolving business activities, determining appropriate accounting treatment for complex transactions (e.g. securitisation) and ensuring robust application across all entities and subsidiary accounting.
* Oversee year-end tax computations for the Society and subsidiaries, liaising with external advisers to ensure timely submission.
About You
You’ll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with significant experience in financial services, within a mortgage/savings provider. You’ll bring:
* Strong knowledge of hedge accounting, effective interest rates, FRS102, and regulatory reporting.
* Detailed knowledge and understanding of regulatory reporting
* A collaborative, hands-on leadership style with the confidence to challenge and influence senior stakeholders.
* A commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and developing people.
The Offer
Alongside a highly competitive salary, you’ll receive a generous benefits package and genuine support to progress your career.
Family Building Society offers a hybrid working model centred on collaboration and purpose, with around 2-3 days a week in the Epsom office.
If you’re ready to take the next step in your career and help shape the future of one of the UK’s most respected mutuals, we’d love to hear from you.
