Are you an experienced educational leader who can step in quickly, provide stability, and drive high-quality outcomes from day one? We are seeking an Interim Head of Department to lead the Early Years & Education curriculum during a key transitional period.
This role is perfect for a confident, solution-focused interim who thrives on challenge, collaboration and making an immediate impact.
What You’ll Be Doing
✨ Provide strong leadership to deliver outstanding teaching, learning and learner outcomes
✨ Work with employers and universities to keep the curriculum industry-aligned and future-ready
✨ Lead quality processes, including observations, learning walks and targeted CPD
✨ Support curriculum planning, design and strategic development
✨ Strengthen employer partnerships, placements and apprenticeship pathways
✨ Oversee quality assurance, budgeting, staffing and performance management
✨ Promote a safe, inclusive and high-performing learning environment
✨ Support recruitment, events and cross-college priorities
✨ Deliver occasional teaching where needed
🧠 What We’re Looking For
You should bring:
✔ Proven leadership experience within FE, Early Years, Education or Teaching & Learning
✔ A track record of improving teaching quality and curriculum performance
✔ Experience with 16–18 provision, adult learning and apprenticeships
✔ A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE/Cert Ed/QTS)
✔ Strong communication, organisational and analytical skills
✔ Confidence leading change and driving continuous improvement
✔ A values-driven, learner-centred approach
