Overview
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Wolverhampton. This is a predominantly office-based role where you will work closely with a skilled engineering team to develop and deliver mechanical designs that meet compliance and safety standards.
Responsibilities
* Develop mechanical designs in line with fire strategy reports, local building regulations, and planning authority requirements.
* Attend design team meetings and collaborate with stakeholders.
* Conduct site surveys of existing installations when necessary.
* Perform heating/cooling (thermal modelling) and ventilation load calculations using industry-standard software.
* Select and size AHUs, FCUs, extract fans, pumps, chillers, ASHP, boilers, plate heat exchangers, etc.
* Calculate and size above-ground drainage systems.
* Select and size domestic hot and cold water systems (e.g., heaters, storage tanks).
* Perform pipe and duct sizing calculations.
* (Preferred) Design firefighting sprinkler and pumping systems.
* Prepare stage reports, presentations, and detailed design documentation.
* Complete Designer’s Risk Assessments and Mitigation Reports.
* Produce mechanical layout drawings and schematics.
* Ensure projects meet key deadlines and quality standards.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
* Significant experience in mechanical building services engineering for construction projects.
* Strong knowledge of CIBSE, IEC, BS, IS & EN (Irish/UK standards) or ASHRAE.
* Proficiency with design software such as Hevacomp, Carrier HAP, CyMap, IES/TAS.
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
