Pathology provides a full microbiology, clinical biochemistry, immunology, haematology, blood transfusion, laboratory haemophilia, and cellular pathology service to the patients of EKUHFT, general practitioners, community healthcare and private hospitals in east Kent. The major proportion of laboratory work, including all work arising from primary care, takes place in purpose-built facilities on the WHH site.

This is a full-time replacement post for a Clinical Fellow who has gone on to take up a Consultant Microbiologist post.
The successful candidate will be joining a team of 5 Consultants in microbiology, virology and infection (4 Medical Consultants, 1 Consultant Clinical Scientist), 1 Specialist Microbiologist and another Clinical Fellow in Medical Microbiology. The microbiology laboratory for the Trust is sited at William Harvey Hospital, Ashford which is the work base for the clinical microbiology and infection team. However, staff may also be expected to work at the Trust’s other acute sites: the Kent and Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury and the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate.
The expectation is that the team of Clinical Microbiologists will be physically present 9.00 - 17.00 at the Trust’s principal three hospital sites. The team of 2 Clinical Fellows will alternate between the 2 major acute sites Ashford and Margate, under the supervision of a Consultant Medical Microbiologist on cover for that site.
