Job Summary
Please note this post is temporary to cover maternity leave for six months or until the current post holder returns.
Salary will be pro-rated for part-time hours.
A vacancy has arisen for the post of temporary part-time Science Technician at Douglas Academy. The post holder will work:
* Wednesday 8.45am - 12.15pm
* Thursday 8.45am - 4.30pm with 45 minutes for lunch
* Friday 8am - 3.30pm with 30 minutes for lunch
The successful candidate will be based in Douglas Academy but may be required to work in any East Dunbartonshire Council secondary school.
Working as part of the technician team, duties include providing effective support for science practical classes; preparing and setting up materials, technical aids, and equipment; ensuring health and safety legislation and council policies are followed; and providing flexible technician support across the school.
The candidate must hold an NC or equivalent in a science-related subject and demonstrate practical skills through education or work experience. Computer literacy, good organisational and time management skills are required. The candidate should be able to work independently and as part of the technician team.
PVG / Disclosure Scotland
All roles within East Dunbartonshire Council requiring PVG/Disclosure checks will adhere to the following criteria:
Successful candidates for Regulated Roles under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020 will need to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check before employment is confirmed. The cost of the check will be deducted from the first salary payment, with possible instalment arrangements approved by the HR & OD Manager. If the employee leaves before the deduction, the full amount will be deducted from the final salary.
This applies to both new applicants and existing employees applying for roles requiring a PVG/Disclosure check.
