Role Overview
Mixed Veterinary Surgeon – Permanent, Full‑time – Salary: £40,000–£60,000 (DOE) – Location: Greenside Veterinary Practice, St Boswells, Scottish Borders.
Work‑Life Balance
A 4‑day working week: two days finish at 5:15pm and two days at 7:15pm. No routine weekend consulting. Weekends on‑call are 1 in 8 (7pm Friday to 8:45am Monday) with the Friday after off. Weeknights on‑call are 1 in 7 (Mon‑Thurs 7pm‑8:45am). Flexible rota arrangements are available.
Responsibilities
- Provide small animal clinical and surgical care with a varied caseload.
- Perform farm and large animal work (beef, sheep, dairy, goats, camelids) – no equine.
- Respond to on‑call duties at Greenside, Jedburgh and Hawick.
- Collaborate with veterinary nurses and support staff; use combined on‑call nurse support.
- Develop specialist interests and contribute to an open, collaborative culture.
Qualifications
- Registered Veterinary Surgeon.
- Minimum 2 years of post‑qualification experience.
- Excellent communication skills and a personable approach.
- Willingness to work with both companion and large animals.
- Flexibility to travel to nearby sites (Jedburgh & Hawick, approx. 20min drive).
Facilities & Equipment
- Small animal: DR X‑ray, new ultrasound, dental X‑ray, bronchoscopy & gastroscopy, multiparameter monitoring.
- Orthopaedics & advanced soft tissue procedures in‑house.
- Large animal: purpose‑built unit with Easi‑Scan ultrasound, fertility testing, calf warmer, AI faecal egg count kit.
- Pool cars available for farm visits.
