Job Overview
We are seeking a talented and passionate Cook/Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hospitality and kitchen operations, with a flair for food preparation and presentation. As a Cook/Chef, you will be responsible for overseeing kitchen activities, managing staff, and ensuring that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards of quality and safety. This role requires excellent leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Responsibilities
* Prepare and cook high-quality dishes in accordance with established recipes and standards.
* Supervise kitchen staff, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient operations.
* Manage food preparation processes, ensuring adherence to food safety regulations and hygiene standards.
* Collaborate with the culinary team to develop new menu items and improve existing offerings.
* Maintain inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, placing orders as necessary.
* Ensure that all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and cleaned regularly.
* Train new kitchen staff in cooking techniques, food safety practices, and kitchen protocols.
* Monitor portion sizes and presentation of dishes to maintain consistency across all meals served.
Requirements
* Proven experience as a Cook/Chef or in a similar culinary role within the hospitality industry.
* Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, culinary arts, and food safety regulations.
* Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse team effectively.
* Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
* Strong organisational skills with the capability to multitask effectively.
* A passion for cooking and creating innovative dishes that delight guests.
* Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends as required.

Candidates must be versatile, able to think on their feet in busy situations, preferably with experience on all sections within the kitchen. Our food is predominantly homemade using local suppliers and locally sourced produce.
Applicants must be passionate about producing and presenting good quality food to a high standard, a flair for creating and producing weekly specials is encouraged.
You must be self-motivated able to work as part of a team but also be able to lead by example when the situation demands.
Your role will also include being responsible for adhering to Food Standards Agency Regulations, i.e. Accurate food labelling, good record keeping of fridge and food temperatures, maintaining a clean and hygienic work environment. Up to date Food hygiene certificates required.
* We are closed Mondays and Tuesdays which means shifts are usually 4 out of the 5 days that we are open.
* Last food booking is 8.00 on a Wednesday/Thursday and 8.30 Friday/Saturday, usually all done by
* No Sunday night shifts as we only serve Sunday lunch 12-4 usually finished by 6 o'clock
* Shifts are fairly flexible with a full weekend off every month.
* You will also receive 28 days holiday a year running from January - December.
essential requirements:
* at least 3 years experience of working as a cook/chef
* food hygiene minimum level 2 or equivalent
* able to work at a fast pace and keep calm under pressure
* have knowledge of all sections in the kitchen
* well organised, clean and tidy
* Own transport would be preferable as we are a food destination pub/restaurant in the centre of a village just off the M62
