Cockenzie Primary School was opened in May 1967. The school building includes a dining room, assembly hall, PE hall and a library and is surrounded by extensive grounds, including an outdoor classroom and growing garden. The school serves the community of Cockenzie and Port Seton, has a mixed catchment with a mixture of private and social housing. The school has a roll of 311 learners from P1 to P7, taught in 13 classes. The nursery capacity is 80.
We have achieved Rights Respecting School Gold status and we are the first school in East Lothian to be accredited as a Reading School with Silver Status. Our school values of Curious, Positive, Successful and Respect underpin all our teaching and learning across the entire school and nursery.
We have very supportive parents/carers with an active Friends and Families of Cockenzie Primary School. We work closely with local groups through taking our learning into the community and members of the community support our learners.

The successful candidate will inspire confidence through extensive experience, knowledge and understanding of Pupil Support, transitions within all stages and into S1, leading learning and teaching within a school and a sound knowledge of educational pedagogy. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to young people through a positive and caring nurturing approach.

Job Details
The role of a Depute Head Teacher is to assist and, where necessary, to deputise for the Head Teacher as required. The role of the Head Teacher is, within the resources available, to conduct the affairs of the school to the benefit of the pupils and the community it serves, through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by East Lothian Council under the overall direction of the Head of Education.
