Remote Working with occasional travel to Woking

We’re supporting a growing education and training organisation that is looking to appoint a Payroll Officer on an initial 6-month contract.

This is a part-time position focused on managing and coordinating payroll activities internally, working closely with an outsourced payroll provider. The role will play a key part in ensuring payroll data is accurate, timely, and compliant, while also supporting a system transition from Sage to Xero.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys ownership of payroll processes and is comfortable working across both permanent employees and contract staff.

The Role

Reporting into the Finance Director, you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day payroll coordination, ensuring all inputs are accurate and deadlines are met.

You’ll act as the key point of contact between the business and the outsourced payroll provider, while also supporting process improvements and the migration to a new finance system.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage end to end payroll coordination, ensuring accurate and timely submission to the outsourced payroll provider
* Prepare and validate payroll data for both permanent and contract staff
* Act as the main point of contact for payroll queries from employees and internal stakeholders
* Review payroll outputs to ensure accuracy, resolving any discrepancies prior to processing
* Maintain accurate payroll records, including starters, leavers, and contractual changes
* Support the transition from Sage to Xero, ensuring payroll processes are aligned with the new system
* Assist with payroll reconciliations, reporting, and audit requirements
* Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and internal controls

What We’re Looking For

* Previous experience in a Payroll Officer or Payroll Administrator role
* Experience working with outsourced payroll providers
* Strong understanding of payroll processes and UK payroll legislation
* Experience processing payroll for a mix of permanent and contract staff
* Exposure to Sage and/or Xero desirable (or system migration experience)
* Strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines
* Confident communicator with good stakeholder management skills
* Able to work independently in a part-time capacity

Why Join?

This is a great opportunity to join a supportive and growing organisation where you’ll take ownership of payroll processes and contribute to a key system transition. The role offers flexibility with part-time hours and remote/hybrid working.
