Location: PWA Office 18-20 York Place, Perth, PH2 8EH with travel throughout Perthshire

Reports to: Family Support Service Team Leader

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality, trauma-informed support to children and young people affected by domestic abuse, ensuring their voices are heard, their safety is prioritised, and their rights are upheld. The role will involve one-to-one, advocacy, and close partnership working with schools, statutory services, and partner agencies.

Key Responsibilities

* Direct Support to Children and Young People
* Provide age-appropriate, trauma-informed support to children and young people affected by domestic abuse, using creative and therapeutic approaches.
* Undertake individual assessments and co-develop support plans with children and young people, ensuring their needs and views are central.
* Deliver activities that promote resilience, recovery, safety, and wellbeing.
* Support children and young people to understand healthy relationships and develop coping strategies.
* Advocacy and Multi-Agency Work
* Advocate on behalf of children and young people, ensuring their voices are heard in decisions that affect them (e.g. in child protection processes, education planning, or family court proceedings).
* Work collaboratively with statutory and voluntary agencies including schools, social work, health services, and the police, to safeguard and promote the wellbeing of children and young people.
* Contribute to Child’s Plans and participate in multi-agency meetings (e.g. GIRFEC, CP case conferences, MARAC).
* Where appropriate, work alongside non-abusing parents/carers to strengthen the parent-child relationship and promote recovery from the impact of domestic abuse.
* Provide information and guidance to parents/carers about the effects of domestic abuse on children and strategies to support them.


Service Development and Delivery

* Contribute to the development, delivery, and evaluation of children and young people’s services.
* Maintain accurate and confidential case records in line with organisational policies and GDPR.
* Gather monitoring and evaluation data to evidence impact and outcomes for children and young people.
* Work to PWA’s aims, objectives, vision and mission
* Manage own workload with a person-centred approach
* Promote multi-agency working – internal and external
* Focus on positive outcomes for children and young people and that they are safe, healthy, active, nurtured, achieving, responsible and included


Person Specification

* Relevant qualification in social work, community education, youth work, childcare, children counselling, or equivalent experience.
* Experience of direct work with children and young people in a supportive, therapeutic, or advocacy role.
* Knowledge of the impact of domestic abuse on children and young people and an understanding of child development.
* Understanding of safeguarding and child protection processes, including GIRFEC and The Promise.
* Ability to build trusting relationships with children and young people, using a rights-based, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach.
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage children, young people, families, and professionals.
* Ability to work flexibly, independently, and as part of a team.
* Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice, equality, and inclusion.
* Knowledge of the Scottish policy and legislative framework around domestic abuse, children’s rights, and child protection.
* Experience of working within the third sector or multi-agency environment.

This job description cannot cover every issue or task that may arise within the scope of the post. The post-holder will be expected to carry out other duties from time to time which are broadly consistent with the duties as detailed above.

The above post is subject to a successful application to the PVG scheme membership to carry out regulated work with adults and children.

It is essential to hold a full driving licence and have access to a car.
